"in the 1980 =} 1980s,

"the policy of positive discrimination created in 1975 =} 1975,

"3,500" =} "$ 3,500"

Attention à la prononciation de certains mots comme : "instituting", "prohibited", "acquired", "Rehabilitation", "suddenly", "apply", "put", "occupied", "status"

The idea of progress

Since the 1960s with "The equal pay act" the United States has been instituting a fight against all forms of discrimination at work. Whether racial, religious or even sexual. In 1968, age discrimination was also prohibited with the "The age discrimination in employment act". In order to enforce these laws at work, in 1965 the federal agency the "Equal Employment Opportunity Commission" (EEOC) was created. During the first years she it had no means and few resources, therefore ineffective. It acquired more power thanks to the push for civil and legal rights until in 1971. "The Rehabilitation Act of 1973" prohibited discrimination linked to disabilities, but this law was not supported by the "Supreme Court", suddenly it is was not necessarily respected. In the 1980s, Reagan finding the policy of positive discrimination created in 1965 with "executive order 11246" unfavorable to the American people, wishes wished to diminish it. But human resources continue continued to apply it under the name "diversity management". From the 1990s, human resources personnel became veritable "experts" on the issues of discrimination at work. Since these years new forms of discrimination are have been put forward. Like the management methods, the positions occupied by women and the disabled or even the fight against sexual harassment. Since 1964 with the Civil Rights Act, the evolution of the status of African-Americans at work has changed. However, much remains to be done. Today two-fifths of black people can be considered to be middle class, below white people. A white middle-class person earns $ 3,500 more annually than a black person with the same education, the same experience.
