Problem-question: Have attitudes changed over time about AIDS ?

This theme of AIDS is related to the idea of progress. This idea of progress passes as well by progress at the level in the field of medicine over time but also by mentalities and speculations around on this subject.

First, let us start with the origin of the AIDS pandemic. Indeed, a first alert appeared on June 5, 1981, the American body for surveillance and prevention of diseases CDC reports a rare form of pneumonia in young Californian homosexuals. First AIDS alert. We then know nothing about this disease, which has no name yet. In January 1983, at the Institut Pasteur Institute in Paris, researchers Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Jean-Claude Chermann, under the direction of Luc Montagnier, isolate isolated a new virus that they call called LAV and that "could be involved in linked to AIDS.

In terms of statistics as early as June 1989, it is was estimated that more than 150,000 cases of AIDS have occurred worldwide.

The introduction of generic drugs will help helped fight this AIDS disease because a compromise was signed on 13 November 2001 at the WTO to allow developing countries to manufacture generic drugs. Since that time care for this disease is accessible and prevention continues today.

So, we have here at the level in the field of science, and particularly of care, an advance in terms of research to deal into dealing with AIDS.

In a second time Moreover we have progress through the change of mentality. Indeed, since the discovery of AIDS and its appearance in France, a feeling of fear and worry has settled in . But as time went by, improvements were made, particularly for screening and treatment, because today screening is available and many of us dare to go and get tested. Discrimination has also been affected generated by this disease, it is true that nowadays this disease is called «chronic disease» like diabetes for example but it is not seen like that today. There is still in our society a situation of family and professional isolation because of the stigma of AIDS, even if over the years progress has been significant.
