I am going to talk about the notion “idea of progress”.

I am going to talk about the notion “idea of progress”. This notion brings together a set of historical events, illustrated by scientifics scientific , literary, artistic advances, etc. But we can also talk about evolutions in societies and mentalities on a Taboo subject, like homosexuality or religion. We can wonder what has been the evolution of homosexuality through over the centuries. First, I will show you speak about the history of homosexuality. Then, I will show you deal with the appearance of homophobia.

In ancient times, there were many homosexual practices, but they were codified, and any divergence was considered a crime. For example, in ancient Greece, homosexuality was present in education, it was called pederasty. Who was a teacher who had sex with his student (boys because girls did not have access to education)for him to hold the court, indeed the Greeks thought that sperm allow to do remember confus PlutĂ´t "Pederasty in ancient Greece was a socially acknowledged romantic relationship between an adult male (the erastes) and a younger male (the eromenos)" . In the Middle Ages, the Church was very important and homosexuality was seen as a crime. However, homosexual practices have not stopped did not stop, they have were just hidden. In the eleventh century, homosexuality was seen as an unnecessary practice because it did not allow procreation. In the twelfth century, repression of homosexuals decreased. In the Enlightenment period , violence returns returned as well as the death penalty for homosexual practices. In the nineteenth century, homosexual characters appeared in the books and at the end of the century the term homosexuality appeared. In the twentieth century, homosexuality and was increasingly accepted, however, some think it is thought it was a disease and studies begin began to be done. Homosexuality is was once again seen as a crime and violence is was on the rise. Finally, in the twenty-first century, violences are violence is punished by law and homosexuality is no longer a disease, and mentalities are beginning to evolve.

In the thirteenth century, political changes to the Church took place to condemn homosexual practices to of castration or death. This is therefore the first homophobic demonstration, even if the term does did not exist at that time. In 1787 Austria replaced the death penalty with practicals work forced labour to punish homosexual acts. In 1791, France completely decriminalized private homosexual acts. However, homophobia continues continued especially on among lesbians, because men have had more powers and more rights. In the twentieth century, the idea that homosexuality is was a disease multiplied, as well as the idea that it is was immoral. These ideas will would sometimes even prevent access to certain trades. In 1945, studies began all over the world, sometimes torture is was used on homosexual people for his studies. In 1968 homosexuality was included in the WHO list of mental illnesses until 1990. During this period, many conversion therapies, castrations and lobotomy take took place. With the emergence of AIDS in 1970 and the association of AIDS with gays, homophobia increased. In 2000, discriminations, violences discrimination, violence and murders motivated by homophobia were punished by law throughout Europe. Today, mentalities are changing and homosexuals can live freely in our society. However, violence persists, to help the victims of such violence, associations are have been created such as Le Refuge or Act Up.

Homosexuality has existed since for a long time, but its evolution has been irregular, one blow she sometimes it was accepted and one blow sometimes it was punished. These evolutions have been accompanied by serious violence which today is fortunately punished by the law.
