Covid-19

What is covide-19:

Covid-19 is a virus belonging to the large family of coronaviruses. Under the microscope it looks like a crown. It can cause a simple cold as well as a serious respiratory infection such as pneumonia. This virus first appeared in China in Wuhan in Hubei province. It is transmitted by droplets of saliva when coughing or sneezing and is deadly like Sras or the Mers.

The origin:

Coronaviruses are of animal origin, a so-called reservoir species which hosts the virus without having any repercussions on this species which it transmits to a species which transmits it to man. For example, the reservoir animal for SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV was the bat*1. For covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) the animal is the pangolin*2, a small scaled mammal that is on the verge of extinction. It is assumed that the bat transmitted the virus to the pangolin, which in turn transmitted it to humans and then from human to human. In the Asian culture the pangolin is known for its scales because they are used as ingredients in Chinese medicine so the virus was more easily transmissible and then it went around the world very quickly.

Preventive measures:

Measures have been taken to prevent and slow down the coronavirus such as coughing and sneezing into your elbow, washing your hands regularly, not greeting each other with a handshake, avoiding hugs, and blowing your nose with a disposable handkerchief. In case of symptoms present call 15. For questions a toll-free number has been set up*4.
